As a member of the younger generation, I spend a great deal of time on that time consuming website they call facebook. If I don't have it running on my phone, then I have a tab open on my computer. And I have noticed a rather strange trend.
People posting pictures of their wounds.
Now, I'm not talking about big, gaping, oh-god-where-did-your-left-toe-go?! kind of wounds. Just little cuts. Pictures of fingers that got nicked by a knife, or a leg that someone cut shaving. I have no issue with these things. They happen to me on a pretty regular basis. But do people really need to take pictures and post them on a public forum?
I don't know whether I'm missing some new meme here. I'm usually about 6-8 months behind on the memes. I just found out about "I accidently the whole thing" a couple weeks ago, and that was because H. and his friends kept using it and I had no idea what they meant. I could write this whole blog about things that H. and his friends say that I don't understand, but I digress. People should not be posting pictures of their cuts and burns and such.
I have to wonder what exactly people are thinking. Are they really so addicted to facebook and others opinions that they must post ever detail of their lives? Does their thought process consist of "Look, I must have accidentally cut myself! I must take a picture of this and post it online so I can get sympathy from people I barely know! And then that girl I like can see just how harcore I really am."?
Sometimes, I wonder about the future of humanity. Then, I come to the conclusion that the prevalence of social media is to blame for the 'look at me!' syndrome that all young people seem to be facing these days.
It wouldn't be so bad if they had good stories to go with the pictures. But it's usually something mundane like shaving or feeding a baby. What happened to humor? What happened to laughter? What happened to NOT BEING LAME?! I blame the internet. Any one thinks they can post any thing and it has to be funny. Alas, it is not true. Not anymore, friends. Not anymore.
Anyways, I'm off to show off this nasty cut I got chasing a puppy down a hill while riding a unicorn and playing chess with Artemis Fowl.
